The Holiday Season Is Coming: Build Your Routine Before Life Gets Busy
The holidays are coming.
And with them come parties, travel, family gatherings, shopping, school events, work deadlines, colder weather, and calendars that somehow seem to fill up overnight.
One of the first things people tend to push aside?
Their workouts.
We tell ourselves,
“I’ll get back to it after the holidays,” or “I’ll start fresh in January.”
But what if this year looked different?
Instead of waiting until January to rebuild your routine, October is the perfect time to create habits that can carry you through the busiest months of the year.
Don’t Wait Until Life Gets Busy
It's much easier to maintain a routine you've already established than to try to create one in the middle of holiday chaos.
Think about the next few weeks as your opportunity to build consistency.
Decide which days you're going to work out. Find class times that fit your schedule. Get used to protecting that time.
Then, when November and December arrive, working out is already part of your week—not another thing you're trying to squeeze in.
Consistency Beats Perfection
Schedule Your Workouts Like Appointments
When life gets busy, the things without a designated time are usually the first things to disappear.
So put your workouts on your calendar.
Look at your week ahead of time and decide when you're going to train. Treat that time the same way you would a meeting, appointment, or dinner reservation.
You wouldn't casually skip an appointment because something else came up.
Your health deserves a spot on the calendar too.
Stop Relying on Motivation
There will be days when you're excited to work out.
There will also be cold mornings when your bed feels much more appealing.
That's normal.
Successful routines aren't built around always feeling motivated. They're built around showing up consistently—even when you don't particularly feel like it.
You don't have to have your best workout every time.
Sometimes the win is simply walking through the door.
Strength Training Matters During Busy Seasons
Use Different Types of Training
Your workouts don't have to look exactly the same every day.
Some days you might want the energy and intensity of a
Sweat Session.
Other days, slowing things down with
Sculpt and focusing on controlled movement and time under tension may be exactly what your body needs.
And some weeks, strength training may be your priority.
A balanced routine gives you options—which makes staying consistent much easier when your schedule changes.
Don't Try to “Earn” Your Holiday Food
This is an important one.
You don't need to work out because you ate dessert.
And you don't need to punish yourself with cardio because you enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner.
One meal isn't going to undo your progress, just like one workout isn't going to create it.
Enjoy the holidays. Enjoy the food. Enjoy time with the people you love.
Then return to your normal routine.
Fitness should support your life—not make you feel guilty for living it.
Protect Your Routine, But Give Yourself Grace
Some weeks are going to be messy.
You'll miss a workout. You'll travel. You'll stay up late at a holiday party. Your normal schedule may completely change.
That's okay.
Instead of saying, “I'll start again Monday,” ask yourself:
“What CAN I do today?”
Maybe it's a full workout.
Maybe it's 30 minutes.
Maybe it's a walk.
Maybe it's simply prioritizing sleep and getting back into the gym tomorrow.
Something is almost always better than nothing.
January Doesn't Have to Be a Restart
Imagine getting to January and not feeling like you have to start over.
Instead of spending the first few weeks of the new year trying to rebuild the habits you lost during the holidays, you're already moving.
You're already training.
You're already in your routine.
That's the goal.
October isn't too early to start preparing for the holidays. It's actually the perfect time.
Build your routine now. Protect it when life gets busy. Give yourself grace when things aren't perfect.
And keep showing up.
At
Brickz Fitness, we'll be here through every busy week, holiday party, missed workout, and comeback.
You don't have to wait until January.
Start now. 💪
